AFX Leadership

Air Force Explorers Leadership consists of an all volunteer (non-paid) force. As per U.S. Military Explorers directives, the Air Force Explorer Commander & Vice-Commander roles are also dual roles within the U.S. Military Explorers Command under the U.S. Military Explorers Board of Advisors.

Col. E. Calvin Lowrie, Jr., a 25-year former CAP Commander, established the U.S. Air Force Explorers in 1999 with a group of former U.S. Air Force Officers, is the Commander of the Air Force Explorers, and holds a dual role as the U.S. Military Explorers Commander.

Lt Col. Thomas Block, is a retired 25-year U.S. Air Force Senior NCO, and former C-141 Combat Aircrewman. He was qualified in 6 different Air Force Aircraft and was a Command-level Aircraft Loadmaster Flight Examiner, with close to 6,000 hours and 42 Combat missions. His aircrew operations experience includes: Vietnam War (Lineback I and Linebacker II), Cold War missions, Gulf War I (Desert Shield and Desert Storm). He is a founder and Life member of the Norton-March Alumni Association; a Life Member of: Air Force Association, Professional Loadmaster Assocation, Veterans of Foreign Wars. HIs formal education includes an AA from Colorado State University in Business Administration, AA from Community College of the Air Force in Aircrew Operations, BS from the University Colorado in Business, and completed graduate work at National University towards an MBA. He is a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and serves at the State-level in Wisconsin as a District Deputy. He is the Author of "The America We Know", a 620 page book on America's Exeptionism, and the author & publisher of 'The American Truth Index'. Serving in the AFX as an Adult Advisor since December 2000, Lt Col Block is the Vice-Commander of the Air Force Explorers, and holds a dual role as the U.S. Military Explorers Chief of Staff.

Major Brando, is a former AFX Explorer Cadet/Captain, an ROTC Commissioned U.S. Air Force Officer, receiving his BS Degree from Arizona State University. He is retired USAF Maintenance Officer, and one of the few who is 'Certified' in all 3-Maintenance Fields in the U.S. Air Force. Major Grone is the Air Force Explorers Chief of Staff.

Capt Matthew Sergent - 'Plebe'

Capt. Matthew Sergent is a former Air Force Explorer Cadet and received his BS in Global Security and Intelligence from Embry-Riddle University. Capt Sergent has served our countries National security community with past positions in the Department of the Navy, and as an Industrial Security Agency. He now provides information security support to the Office of the Secretary in the Department of Transportation. Captain Sergent is the Air Force Explorers - Chief of A2, Air Intelligence.

Capt. Daniel Bogert is a former Air Force Explorer/Cadet, and received his BS from Virginia Miltary Institute, and has served in the various staffing & consulting positions in the Arizona State Legislature. He is the Executive Director of the Arizona Restaurant Association. Captain Bogert is the Air Force Explorers - Chief of A3, Operations and Readiness.
